Thanks, Livingisdetail! And see those darker lines behind his collar and shoulderblade? They’re the edge of his hackles, which he raises in times of danger, such as when the neighbours have put their kitchen garbage by their door since the last time he was out. Boy, if I saw those raised triangles of fur, I’d be one scared grocery bag too.

I know, Urban Thought, sounds delish!
If you click on the tag “megaesophagus”, you’ll find out what Eyegillian and Goodbear already know. Basically, Cai doesn’t have any swallowing muscles. He needs to eat soaked kibble at as vertical an angle as he can manage, to let gravity help the food get to his stomach. We like to mix in tinned dog food or, today, ground-up leftover chicken to add some variety to the kibble porridge.
And, yes, he is cute. Once as a puppy he was the victim of a drive-by cuting!
